can you make any sense of this? i think of it as a list of ways for the human race to better itself. find your own meaning, but let it come to you. i've been listening to that track for 4 years now and any sort of meaning of it didnt pop into mind until just a few days ago. it's amazing what you can discover about things if you leave them alone for a while.
the first thing i remember about radiohead was seeing their video, "just" in fifth grade. you remember kennedy? that frizzy-headed, four-eyed mtv vj chic? well, she introduced the video and after i saw it, i was mesmerized. it wasn't until after i saw that video that i found out "creep" was by radiohead, too. a few weeks later, i caught the "high and dry" video.
i went into best buy all the time after that, always planning on buying "the bends", but never doing so. it was really cheap, too.. like $7.99 or something, but i kept postponing my purchase of it.
in eighth grade, my pal, stephanie let me borrow "ok computer". i was instantly hooked. i would have to say that to this day, that is probably my favorite radiohead album. after i bought "ok computer", the rest of the albums followed... along with the "7 television commercials" video.
[best thing, though.. this past summer, at camp, on the boy's floor below ours, every guy in that hallway liked radiohead to some extent. i'd always see the death bear and the crying devil being drawn everywheres. ja.]
[why the hell do you like this band?]
radiohead?
well, they have this sortof gloomy, air-tunnel... grey day wires and circuits..
er- they have this artificial feel. and it's a very nice, solemn feeling. once again, this is a band that's not trying to kick everyone's asses and they're not a whiny band [despite some of yorke's lyrics and singing.. heh].
the lyrics in most radiohead
songs are sentimental and pull at the heartstrings [or mine at least], but
some are not easy to decipher. i.e. "you want me?/fuckin' well come
and find me/i'll be waitin'/with a gun and a pack of sandwiches/"...
some of the song lyrics just give you a visual image of some sort of situation.
SPEAKING
of visual images..
radiohead's music videos leave a lasting impression as well. most of their
video storylines are mysterious. you're not sure why thom yorke is sitting
inside a burning car, or you're not sure why he's in a water tank, either,
but you lean back and accept it.
and well, sometimes
you just feel "let down and hanging around/
crushed like a bug in the ground/"
